Got a YouTube copyright strike? Get it resolved
A copyright strike can stop you uploading, and three active strikes can get your channel terminated. If the strike is wrong — you own the content, have a licence, or your use is fair dealing — it can often be challenged. An IP lawyer checks your rights, writes to the claimant for a retraction, and prepares a counter notification when that is the right step.

How we get it solved
- 1Review the strike, the claimed work and your licences or proof of ownership
- 2Ask the claimant to retract, through a legal notice where appropriate
- 3Draft and file a counter notification through YouTube's process if the claim is wrong
- 4Advise on fair dealing under the Copyright Act, 1957 and on protecting future uploads
Documents that help
- Screenshot or email of the strike / claim
- Link to the video and your original files
- Licences, music or stock purchase receipts, written permissions
- Proof that you created the content

FAQ
Got a YouTube copyright strike? Get it resolved: common questions
How long does a YouTube copyright strike last?+
A copyright strike generally expires after 90 days if you complete Copyright School and don't receive more strikes. Three active strikes can lead to channel termination, so wrongful strikes should be dealt with quickly.
Is filing a counter notification risky?+
A counter notification is a legal declaration, and the claimant can respond by starting legal action. File it only when you genuinely have the right to use the content — a lawyer helps you decide.
Is it free to submit my problem on LawPaw?+
Yes. Telling us your problem and getting a call back from your coordinator is free. You pay only if you decide to go ahead.
What will I have to pay?+
Up to three things, all told to you in writing before you pay: (1) LawPaw's convenience fee for coordinating your matter, (2) the professional's fee, which they quote, and (3) government charges such as court fees or stamp duty, at actual cost. GST applies as per law. There are no hidden charges.
